Trying to Get Back on Track? Don’t Make This Mistake

February 25, 20263 min read

Last week, I had a call with a woman I've worked with on and off for years.

We hadn't worked together in about 5 months because life got messy, priorities shifted, and she needed to step back.

But last week, she was ready to return. And on our first call back, she asked me a question I hear constantly:

"What should I be doing to get the BEST results?"

This is a pattern I see with so many women, and I want to talk about it because it could be one of the biggest things that's keeping you stuck.

When you've been off track for a while and you're ready to get back on, there's often this pull toward optimization.

You want to figure out the best plan, the optimal approach, the perfect way to do it.

And it makes sense, right? You've been away for a while, so you really want to hit the ground running.

But here's what actually happens:

First, it delays your (re)start.

Instead of simply taking action, you're waiting.

You're researching, planning, trying to figure out what the absolute best possible action could be.

Meanwhile, weeks go by, and you're still not moving any closer to your goal.

Second, it puts all the pressure on the results instead of the process.

You're so focused on getting the "best" outcome that you're not thinking about what actually fits into your life long-term.

You're not asking, "What can I sustain?" You're asking, "What will get me the fastest results?"

And when you approach it that way, you're setting yourself up to get off track again because it was never designed to last.

Third, you risk burning yourself out or even hurting yourself.

If you haven't exercised in months and you jump straight into an intense workout routine, you're setting yourself up for injury.

If you haven't been tracking food and you suddenly move to a rigid meal plan with specific macro targets, you might create too big of a calorie deficit, which actually damages your metabolism long-term.

So, what should you do instead?

Well, here's what I told my client (and now what I'm telling you)...

When you're trying to get back on track, the question to ask yourself is not: "What should I be doing to get the BEST results?"

It's: "How do I get into action—any kind of action—as quickly and with as little friction as possible?"

Because once you're moving, momentum builds.

Once you have momentum, then you can optimize.

Then you can improve the plan. Then you can dial things in.

But the most important part? Getting into action. Not picking the best action. Just getting into action.

The women who see the biggest transformations aren't the ones who had the perfect plan from day 1.

They're the ones who started messy, built momentum, and then refined as they went.

So here's my question for you today...

When you want to get back on track, what's the ONE thing you're most tempted to optimize first?

Is it your workout routine? Your meal plan? Your morning routine? Your time management?

Send me an email and let me know. I read every single one, and I'd genuinely love to know what's on your mind.

P.S. If you're ready to stop getting stuck in the optimization trap and actually get into sustainable action, my Empower Eating Blueprint program could be the support you need.

This is where we focus on building real momentum and creating changes that actually stick, without perfectionism or burnout.
