Confession time: I know nothing about gardening.

 

I’m the kind of person who buys a cute little plant, brings it home, waters it once a week (usually...), and hopes for the best. 🤞🌱😂

 

But the other day, I was chatting with my neighbor (who’s basically a gardening wizard), and she gave me a piece of advice that totally surprised me.

 

I told her I was thinking about starting a garden next spring.

 

And she said, “Amanda, you don’t need to wait until spring. You can start gardening now.”

 

Wait, what? That sounded completely backwards to me.

 

"But isn’t it too late? Don’t I need to wait until the weather is warmer?"

 

She smiled and said, “It’s never too late to start. There’s always something you can grow. You just have to find the right plants for the current conditions—whether it’s outdoors or right in your kitchen.”

 

That’s when I had a lightbulb moment.

 

Her advice on gardening is exactly how we should approach our health goals.

 

It’s not about waiting for the "perfect" conditions.

 

It’s about learning how to be successful right now, with the conditions you have.

 

So many people wait until January to start working on their health, thinking it’ll be easier then. But the reality is, life is always busy, and there’s never a “perfect” time.

 

If you only tend to your metaphorical garden when everything is perfect, your growing season will be very short.

 

By starting now (yes, now, even during the chaos of the holiday season), you’re building skills and habits that can weather any storm.
