"Discipline must come through liberty." — Maria Montessori
The other day, I had a conversation with a woman who was frustrated that, despite her best intentions to improve her eating habits, she keeps repeating the same scenarios.
She told me how she eats really well during the day...but then finds herself feeling "snacky" in the evenings and gives in to her cravings at least 3 days a week.
That she tries to set boundaries for when she goes out to eat by telling herself, "I'll only order a salad"...but once she sees what her friends and family are ordering she caves and orders a burger and fries almost every time.
And then after multiple weeks of being off track with her eating, she'll sit down on a Sunday to map out the perfect meal plan...but by Thursday night she's right back to ordering takeout again.
If so, then I'm willing to bet you're also doing at least one of the things she was doing, which were:
Thinking that she needed more willpower to control her eating habits.
Limiting certain foods or food groups for "special occasions only" or for when she "earned" them or even eliminating some foods completely.
Creating plans that were based on the "best case scenario" and didn't allow for any flexibility.
If you are, then you my friend are experiencing what I like to call,
The Discipline Dilemma is a conundrum that most Well Intentioned Women find themselves facing when attempting to eat healthier.
They think that if they just had more discipline, then they'd be able to change.
Yet every attempt at implementing more discipline in their lives is either short lived, or completely backfires...often resulting in eating habits that are even more "out of control" than when they started...
Which just reinforces the belief that they "need more discipline" in order to be successful.
But then, how do you build more discipline if you need discipline in order to do so...?
It's a bit of a catch-22, isn't it?
Hence the dilemma. 🤔
But here's the thing,
After working with hundreds of women, I've discovered that the ones who are most successful at changing their eating habits AREN'T the ones with the most discipline.
In fact, discipline plays a much smaller role in the process than many women think.
So if you're currently facing The Discipline Dilemma, and you're tired of feeling like you're constantly fighting against yourself to eat healthier,
