The Fresh Start Trap: Why “All-In” Keeps You Stuck

September 03, 20253 min read

"Goals are for people who care about winning once. Systems are for people who care about winning repeatedly." — James Clear

When you’ve been off your routine for a while,

Maybe after vacation, travel, or a busy season,

Do you ever think:

“Okay, time to get serious. Back on track. Meal prep every Sunday. Workouts 4x/week. No excuses.

It sounds good in theory…

👉 But that “all-in” mindset is actually what keeps most women stuck.

I know, because I almost fell into it myself.

After an entire month of bouncing between Nashville, Bogotá, and New York, I came home with that same fresh-start energy.

The urge to go from 0 to 100 was strong.

But here’s what I actually did instead:

  • I planned the simplest meals possible: smoothies for breakfast, turkey wraps for lunch, pre-cooked chicken sausages with bagged salad kits for dinner.

  • I chose exercise I already enjoy instead of starting some intense new program.

  • And I gave myself permission to meet myself where I was, knowing I still had unpacking, work, and life responsibilities waiting for me.

Because here’s the reality:

Coming home didn’t give me a brand-new life with unlimited time and energy.

It just gave me back a little bit of the control I lost while I was away.

And if I had jumped straight into “beast mode”? I would have burned out within a week.

This is the mistake so many women make after a period of inconsistency:

❌ They treat a fresh start like a blank slate where they can suddenly do everything they’ve never been able to sustain before.

❌ They set unrealistic expectations that completely ignore the limitations and obstacles they deal with everyday.

❌ They assume discipline will magically appear just because the calendar reset.

But consistency doesn’t happen by jumping from one extreme to another.

It comes from building a routine that actually fits your real life.

For some women, that means easing back into a routine they already know.

For others, it means creating a new one that reflects their actual time, energy, and responsibilities...not the “perfect life” they wish they had.

Either way, the key is the same: stop overcomplicating, start simplifying.

That’s exactly why I created Capsule Cooking, a brand new mini course launching this fall.

Capsule Cooking is designed to help you simplify meal planning the same way a capsule wardrobe simplifies getting dressed.
